Snail Tatting Pattern

Updated 01/20/03

Who would ever design a snail?   Well, that would be me! Growing up in California, we got a lot of rain each winter and had a major snail and slug problem.  Mom would put out poison, but we'd still have snails.   One spring, I gathered up a whole bunch of snails and kept them in a bucket.  I had a lot of fun watching how they moved and ate.   I must have been around 8 or 9.   When I was in junior high school, I had a duck and a chicken as pets and they took care of our snail problem.   Our duck, Lucky, would make the rounds each morning and would jump for the snails that had climbed up our fences.   No need for any more snail bait after that!

When tatted with size 20 thread, the snail measures about 3 inches long and 1 1/2 inches high.

Requires 2 shuttles for snail body; shuttle and ball for shell.

Techniques used: Rings and chains for shell. Split rings and inverted tatting (chain folded back and joined to itself) in body.

Pattern Price: $2.50
