Hackle Pliers
Updated 10/10/2011

Hackle pliers are a versatile tool for shuttle tatting. Running out of ball thread and need a bit of weight to keep the tension just right? Clip the hackle pliers to the tail end and tatting with that last couple inches of thread becomes much easier. Finger tatting and need something to hold onto? Hackle pliers to the rescue.

To use any of the pliers, Squeeze the ribbed sides and use a slight twisting motion to separate the tips. To fasten on something, squeeze the ribbed sides and slightly twist to bring the tips together again with the thread caught in the tip pinch. The gripping surface on all of the hackle pliers I stock is smooth (no teeth). Tip shape varies between type of hackle plier.
