I started this doily in white, size 20 thread during the Christmas holidays, 2001. This was our last Christmas with Dad as he lost the battle with cancer in January 2002. His mother tatted, knitted and crocheted, although she no longer tatted by the time I was big enough to watch her. Dad always enjoyed watching me work, in part because it reminded him of his Mom, so this doily is dedicated to Dad. In 2001, the final round was different and I wanted something that looked better, but couldn't come up with anything at the time. The doily sat around until June, 2003. I was introduced to the Perfect Quilter sewing thread by a fellow tatter, Nancy Corns. So, I started the doily again and came up with a perfect finishing round. The model shown here took Best of Show in Tatting and Other Laces at the 2003 Colorado State Fair.
When tatted with Perfect Quilter sewing thread, the doily measures 6" across. When tatted with size 20 thread, the doily measures about 9".
